How to Repel Pests with Natural Essential Oils
Why Use Awful, Repulsive, Stinky, Sticky Bug Spray When You Can Use Naturally Fragrant Efficient Essential Oils?
In my previous post, “The Best Essential Oils For Your Essential Survival Kit“, I mentioned about how Essential Oils can be a natural solution to decrease your dependence on toxic, sometimes ineffective and always expensive medicine.
Now, let’s see how natural essential oils can help you contain pest. You know, those common bugs like cockroaches, aphids, ants, flies, mosquitoes, and even mice. Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years to help people not only with disease but to fight insects as well.
Essential Oils: Spearmint, Eucalyptus, and Peppermint
Place a couple of drops of a blend of peppermint, eucalyptus, and spearmint essential oil on several cotton balls.
Place them where you suspect a mice infestation. You could find Mice behind appliances such as washer, and dryer and of course behind your fridge. Mice can also decide to colonize your attic and/or garage.
Look for tiny drops and for any place where mice may be going through your house.
Place your cotton balls there as well.
This can be used as an excellent deterrent. But of course, if the infestation is very serious, further measures may be required.
Essential Oils: PeppermintUse a spray bottle to blend half a glass of water to ten drops of peppermint essential oil. Lightly sprinkle the blended mixture within the troubled areas.
Another Natural Alternative to Curb Ants Infestation
White vinegar is one more accepted natural manner to eliminate ants. Fill a small plastic spray bottle with white vinegar & spray where ants usually show up inside your home.
Cayenne pepper or Black pepper are also effective ways to protect spaces from ants by showering the vinegar in spots where ants usually appear.
Essential Oils: Peppermint, Lemongrass, Citronella, and CypressJust apply a couple of drops of citronella oil to several cotton balls.
Of course, you can blend citronella with peppermint or lemongrass essential oils as well. You should place one cotton ball in each of the troubled areas.
That might be close to the refrigerator, closets or below the sink.
Another way is to blend a spraying solution by mixing half a glass of water to ten drops of peppermint essential oil & 5 drops of cypress essential oil. TheEssentialTools.Com sells spray bottles especially for essential oils. Spray the essential oils blend wherever the cockroaches generally go.
Essential Oils: Clove, Lavender, Citronella, and PeppermintPlace a scattering dried cloves leaves into a container. Blend together clove, lavender, and citronella essential oil and sprinkle a couple of drops of the mixture to the leaves. Alternatively, you can switch citronella for peppermint essential oil on the dried cloves.
Add this blend of essential oils to the dried cloves daily or any time you see that the leaves have dried.
Leave the bowl in places where flies may stay such as your back & front doors, kitchen, and close to the car park.
Essential Oils: Lemongrass, Peppermint, Citronella, & LavenderWith the Zika Virus among us, it becomes more and more important to get rid of mosquitoes. Blend a couple of drops of citronella essential oil and lemongrass essential oil in a diffuser. Try not using citronella candles because the heat kills the properties of the essential oils.
Alternatively, you can apply 5 drops each of citronella essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, peppermint essential oil, & lavender essential oil on ribbons. Hang the ribbons on all the doorways, in your desck or veranda, or your windows to prevent flies from going into your house.
Essential oils: rosemary, lavender essential oils
Aphids are among the most destructive insect pests on cultivated plants in temperate regions. In one litre (that’s 4 cups) of water with salt, blend 10 drops of rosemary and lavender essential oil. Spray the blend to the affected plants. It is absolutely safe to apply the solution on most plants, even the delicate ones. Neem essential oil has some repelent properties can and keep aphid reproduction down. Need essential oil has a bitter taste so aphids and many pests which eat garden plants will not attack them, if they have been sprinkled with the solution. Apart from Essential Oils, another natural aphid repellent is calcium powder. Just sprinkle the calcium powder around the plant’s base.
Essential Survival does NOT sell essential oils, so you will need to find a provider that has a good reputation. If you read this and can recommend a good essential oil vendor, you are welcome to comment below. Your help is much appreciated.
